A total of 1,400 stool samples of school - age children from five primary schools in Xin Man district, Ha Giang province were examined using Kato - Katz technique to determine the status of soil -transmitted helminths infections in October 2021. The prevalence of soil - transmitted helminths of school - age children at the study site was 48.1%. The prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides (27.4%) was the highest, followed by hookworm infection (14.2%) and Trichuiris trichiura (8.4%). Single nematode species infection was the highest 96.0%, followed by mix infections with two nematode species 3.9% and only 0.1% cases were infected with three nematode species. The average infection intensity of roundworm was 5,985.88 ± 22,435.50 eggs/1 gram of stool (EPG); that of whipworm was 81.15 ± 91.26 EPG and that of hookworm was 243.5 ± 504.63 EPG. The prevalence of the light intensity of roundworm infection was 84.4%, moderate intensity 12.5%, heavy intensity 3.1%. For hookworm, the light intensity counted for 99.0% infection cases while moderate and heavy cases got the same prevalence at 0.5%. All children got the light infection with whipworms.
